Applying for tax credits

Can anyone help. I want to make an application for Tax Credits and am aware that I have to put in my annual salary for last year but the problem is I will be going back to work part time (am currently on maternity leave). So I dont want them to think I am earning x amount when really I will be earning half of it.

I am not sure how it works as I have never applied before do I just put down what my new yearly salary would be? Thanks

i was in the same situation. i put in a claim when i had chops and they used my annual income then amended it when i called to explain i was on mat.leave. now im part time ive called again and they have amended again.

i find it far easier and that things actually get done if you call rather than rely on the postal system.

from what i could make out they disregarded so much of my income as maternity pay ort something.

    give them a call.

at the very least if or once you have a baby you will be entitled to child tax credit. and if and when you return to work you will be entitled to claim so much (70% i believe) towards child care costs provided the child is at a registered child care place. you cant claim if a relative or friend is having them.
