Hi There,
Not sure if this is the right place to put this but here is the story. My mother suffered a stroke three years ago and has been livivng in a care home in Haringey, North London, since. At present it is costing about £2300 per month and since she is paying fully for her care the money will run out in a couple of years, this morning the social worker has suggetsed that since she no longer needs the nursing care she can return home with a package of care, aside from the adapts to make the home safer i will need to pay for a carer to vist 3/4 times a day, how much do you think i'll end up paying? They will also arrange for vists to a day centre and taxi cabs to vists friends, this might be cheaper than the £2300 we're paying at the moment,
Comments please,
Beatle Ray

It varies depending on the savings your mother has, I believe if she has less than £16,000 she will be entitled to assistance with Care costs (Domiciliary) as she would be whilst in Nursing or Residential Care. I wouldn't give this a thought though if your mother is happy in the home she is in now and receiving good care, whilst your mother is living at home she would still be extremely dependant on family members, which in some circumstances puts a big strain on relationships with families.

Hi,
I should have pointed out she does own her own home and tahst fully paid for plus she does have over the £23,000 worth of savings which i think is the qualfying part for paying for her care. She has never been happy in the care home and the desire to return home is still there,

Hi Beatleray, I work for a nursing home provider and to be honest, the private rate you are paying for nursing care seems really low. Private nursing care is usually approx £600 - £900 per week with the PCT paying the FNC element direct to the care provider. Unfortunatly, due to the property owenership and saving your mother will have to continue to pay for her own care. If your mother does have to stay in the care home you could negotiate the rate with the provider. Also, another tip is to look at the ownership of the property as if she continues to own it she will have to end up selling it eventually to pay for her fees.
Sorry I can't give more positive advice, I'm afraid my experience in domicillary care is minimum.0
