Washing machine.. cycle time

Hi All

I'm about to buy a washing machine and I'm interested in getting a Bosch but have read the cycle times are over 2 hours!

Just out of curiosity, what washing machine make and model do you have, and what it the cycle time for a standard 40 degree mixed wash?

  • Hello.

On Monday I took delivery of a new "BUSH" branded washer. My other one broke suddenly and I needed one quickly and didn't have the time to save for an expensive one and so plumped for this at £180. I did have gift vouchers kicking about, so I physically paid Argos £100 and they gave me 5 months to pay it up without interest.

It seems fine, I have done about 12 washes with it as I had a bit of a back log! The main wash cycle on this is 2hrs:58mins! It is an "A" rated for energy but I was a bit concerned when I read this in the instruction manual. However I have one of those electricity monitors and checked what the usage was like throughout the time it was on and it flashed between 8p per hour, 4p per hour and 1p per hour. That was at 40 degrees. So whilst the programme takes ages, these new machines seem to run very economically. My parents have a BEKO machine and they said that brand also takes over 2 hours.

The wash results were very good I have to say. I think they must all run for a couple of hours now a days on the main wash but cost less to run than older machines maybe?

Hopefully someone else will come along soon with more info! Hope you like your new machine. :)
  • I have a hotpoint one, no idea what model (i cant see it from where im posting 1000miles inbetween) and it came with the house, maybe 1 year old. Its main normal cycle is just over 2hours, and the speediest cycle on some green symbol and with 40 degrees is 40mins or something like that

I have a Zanussi and the wash time is about 2 hours 15 mins.

It does have a quick wash option which lasts about 30 mins. It's ok for freshening things up that are slightly grubby, but no good for childrens clothes such as muddy football kits and bolognaise stained items!
Here I go again on my own....

If you currently have an older machine, then you will notice that all modern machine have longer cycle times, as they are cold fill only.

My Bosch WM is 6 months old, it's one of the Exxcel range I think. I tend to use the easy care / mixed load washes, which take around 1 hour on 40 degrees.
  • My Bosch has a quick wash feature, as well as a cold wash - all these are about 30 mins. I think most washing machines have these features nowadays because my machine is know 9 years old, rIt also has time delay built in so that I can take advantage of low cost electricity - then don't care how long the wash takes. Was told didn't need to use as much powder etc because modern machines don't need to use as much water. I tested this by putting in standard amount of powder into an empty machine and turning it on. On the final rinse there was still a fair amount of soapy water son now in use less powder. Hth.
  • We got this one a month ago:

    40 degree cotton cycle is 1h 25mins. 40 degree synthetics is 1h 13 mins.

Ours is cold fill only so I don't know why the other brands take twice as long! I'm more than pleased with how clean the clothes come out, and there's no soap left behind after the rinse.
