ebay fees query

bit of a family disagreement !!...

listing an item .. on a Buy it Now ... I've looked on the ebay "fees" page on their site..and looking at "insertion fees" and "final value fees" .. there are maitrixs showing differrent costs for differrent values .

I read it that an item at £30 .00 costs much more to list than one at £29.99 .
Son is adamant that there''s no differrence.

Am i reading this right .. must admit i find the words on that page a bit confusing ... don't actually see "buy it now" mentioned ..

help ? !!

You are right, 75p to list at £29.99, but list at £30 and you'll pay £1.50.

I never understood why people don't drop the 1p and save themselves money, just look at the amount listed at £5 when they could have saved 15p a listing by dropping to £4.99.

  • I've done it myself and I can tell you it's because I didn't have the fee tiers carved in my brain and it didn't occur to me to check :)

I do check now that I've wised up to it.
    My TV is broken!
Edit: refunded £515 for TV 1.5 years out of warranty - thank you Sale of Goods Act! :j

Sometimes I've been very tempted to contact a seller and tell them that they could save money, there was one a few weeks back had listed about 30 items at £5 (and it wasn't a cheap listing day) . I never have yet though in case they think I'm interfering and there could of course be a cunning plan behind their decision to list at £5 instead of £4.99.

That reminds me (thank you) I have to change the prices on my cheap listing day items before I re-list them. I just used whole numbers, instead of the 99ps.
