no claims help :(

i have just taken out a new policy with aviva for my car insurance.

they have asked for my proof of no claims so i contacted my previous insurer.

they have sent me just 1 years NCD.

having contacted them to ask why they initially said they didn't receive the previous proof (5 years) but having sent them the proof and again just , to show the 5 years was continuous prior to the policy with them they then said that the policy i was on with them was a specialist 4*4 one and didn't take no claims into account

i telephoned aviva and explaind my previous insurers were messing about and they told me to send both proofs. the 5 years and the 1 year and a covering letter which i did

now aviva are saying i am only allowed 1 year as thats what my previous proof states and there not interested in sorting it.. they wont even let me speak to the ncd team it all has to be done via customer services who liase with them whilst keeping yo on hold on there 0844 number..... AAAAGGHHHHHH lol

ive built up 6 years no claims and now they are trying to make me go down to 1 ..

they has been no break in the policies

surely there must be something i can do as this it wrong

If you have proper proof of the 5 years, why not cancel this aviva policy and start again, saying you have 5 years?

probably because they will levy a cancellation charge that could well wipe out the extra NCB reduction?

Yes you are outside the cooling off period, so will be stuck with full cancellation charges.

Your OP did say you had "just" taken out the policy, hence my suggestion.

Though the difference in the value of the discount betwen 5 and 6 years NCD is either nil or neglible, so it will be worthwhile seeing what they would charge to cancel and comparing that with the savings on a new policy with full 5 years NCD.
