RAC Car Insurance are Thiefs

I recently took out car insurance with the RAC i accepted the premium they quoted me of £720 for the year and paid up front. I have since returned from holiday to find a letter from the RAC advising that as they have not received confirmation of my no claims bonus entitlement they have recalculated my premium to £2720 for the year and are going to deduct £1990 from my account on the 17th September. I imediately called them and explained I had sent confirmation of my 6 years no claims so was a little confused. They explained that if i fax a copy of this to them today all would be well. I later found out that actually all would not be well as RAC had taken it upon themselves to lodge the payment with my credit card and have already taken the £1990.00 without not so much as a phonecall to me to authorise such a hefty transaction! I am even more confused as the letter clearly states that the money would be taken on the 17th unless I contacted them with proof of my no claims bonus. As you know today is the 16th September and I have confirmation that my faxed proof of my no claims is now in the hands of the RAC yet still I am advised tough luck we are taking the money anyway and we will get back to you in 28 days once our underwriting team have reviewed your policy!!
To say that steam is blowing from my ears is an understatement! One how dare they take such a large some of money without my consent and two if I have now provided the details they need why can they not simply stop the transaction. Why can they provide you an insurance quote online in 2 seconds but I have to wait 28 days to have my policy recalculated!!! Someone please help me, how can they do this!!!!

There's nothing to prevent you from contacting your CC and telling them that you dispute the transaction.42 years of experience in the insurance industry.
And nothing the industry tries do to us surprises me any more!0
