How long to get a quote

I have been waiting for a week and half now and it is get quite annoying. So much so that I could actually not bother going with the company, even though I have seen the quality of their work.
Am I being unreasonable, or is this wait excessive.

It is for a lot of work, but even so it seems like a long wait to me. I have contacted them and they said Tuesday, then Wednesday and then today.

  • You aren't being impatient. They set the deadline 3 times and failed to meet it. They are unreliable, I would go with someone else
  • If it's for a lot of work, then to wait a couple of weeks or possibly more isn't unreasonable, but if they have promised a quote by a certain date then they should provide one by that date.

I think they think the job is going to be given to them as I have seen the work they have done to two neighbours. To be honest it was going to be, but I am getting so frustrated that they cannot get me a quote within the time limits they set, that I have already phoned a different company now for a quote. It is a shame because I chatted to them a bit when they were doing the neighbours, and I watched how hard they worked, plus they have great feedback on check a trade.

  • This is a possible stalling tactic they may be hoping that you'll be ever the more egar to sign with them if they keep you dangeling on the hook a while.

I nmade this comment on another post I hope it helps you in making your mind up.

all ways get 3 quotations and be aware of the bogus discount tails the sales man will give you.

BTW if you do sign you only have 7 days cooling off period in which to cansel. READ THE TERMS AND CONDITIONS BEFORE SIGNING. The suposed fitting date can be rearanged by the fitting company as and when they wish with in reason so any fitting dates given to you by the sales man may be bogus.

If you get it on finance the finance comany has to for fill the 10 year guarantee if the fitting company goes under with in the 10 years.

Ask the sales man questions about what he is telling you. For instance:-
    • Your house in on a main road, or there is a Bus Stop nearby, you are eligible for an extra X% off, this is a fake discount.
    • If you agree to a site board outside, ditto - fake discount.
    • There is a school up the road, ditto - fake discount.
    • We need a show house in your road, ditto - fake discount.
    • I will phone my manager to see if I can get the o.k. to offer you an even deal, ditto - fake discount.
    • I am the manager not a salesman, no commission to pay and your order will be at a trade price, ditto - fake discount.
All a load of codswallop, but there are some people who still fall for it!

    Good Luck

Its not really with a salesman as such. It is a local kitchen/builder team. They might not want the work I suppose, but they have put in the hours already to do the measurements and computer drawings etc etc.

It might just be that they are busy and want to spend a little time putting together a correct price rather than a 'guestimate' which will always be a bit more to cover it. I normally try to do my pricing up in about a week if this helps

Good quesion. I too have been awaiting a quote from builders. Some have taken 3 weeks some 2 but when I phoned up to chase they said that they are waiting to hear back from lead man? Or glazers etc.. So it may not be there fault as such. But I found it annoying. They all got there in the end.
