Broken Boiler, Ineligible for Warmfront....
Hi,
I have a broken boiler, that is repairable although there is no point because the fault re-occurs constantly due to a leak in my concrete floor. I.e all the pipework needs replacing before repairing or replacing the boiler.
I therefore have no heating or hot water. I'm a home-owner on JSA and housing benefit but as I'm under 60, have no children and am not receiving disability allowance I'm not eligible for a Warmfront grant.
Short of someone coming around to break my legs and hence becoming eligible for Warmfront, is anyone aware of any other options I may have?
Thanks!
W

The usual options - use your savings, apply for a commercial loan, apply for a budgeting loan (limited to about £350), save up the money, move to rented accommodation if you do not like the overheads of ownership.
Surely you have already been doing the saving-up thing as a matter of course - what were your contingency plans before the actual problem occurred? How were you intending to handle something when it did come up?0 -

I've no savings, only astronomical debts and I'm out of work. I cannot get any credit. I was really just enquiring as to whether there was any sort of state provision w.r.t. one having no heating or hot water as winter approaches.0 -

I'm pretty sure as a private house owner you have little in the way of help from the state. Sorry.0 -
lack of money for a contingency plan is something a lot of folk here have these days as far too busy paying the bills let alone paying for anything that breaks down - in the past 12 months such has added 3 k to my debt as dealing with such but now at stage if it breaks I go withoutI am responsible me, myself and I alone I am not the keeper others thoughts and words.0

Our boiler is on the way out, our option was to add to the mortgage- is there a mortgage on the house so is this an option? Luckily to replace the system isn't as much as I had initially thought so we may be able to get the money together after all - good luck in getting it sorted.0

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but you may be looking at a bill of aorund £3 -4000 for this work. I am in the process of getting a new quote for a total system replacement with new pipes.0

Unfortunately I'm mortgaged over 100% as it is, so I've no scope there, but thank you for the suggestion.0
