I'm aiming to have my debt sorted by the end of this year then I want to tackle the mortgage. It's not huge, and I have 9 years left on it, but I've set myself a challenge to have it paid off by the end of the fixed term which is March 2011. Then I'll move to a job I enjoy rather than one that pays well and take a holiday.

My goal is : By time i'm 20, I want to be debt free and have enough saved to do an Open University Course in Business management (so in other words, I need to raise about a grand in 9 months approx, and i'm trying to bite impulse shopping habits. Its not a big goal, just trying to tame bad habits, and get my foot on the savings rail - I do have a 1.5k ISA in my mums name, but i've said I don't want that until I can fully trust myself with it.

Isn't the knowledge that comes from experience more valuable than the knowledge that doesn't?
  • My goal to be debt free by Dec 2007, then get the mortgage paid off as soon as possible. Then retire and travel the world.
  • I want to be debt free so I can move to a bigger house, in fact this was my motivation for paying off the debts in the first place! I've always wanted a big house and suddenly realised that I wasn't even secure in this one whilst we had such big debts. My nightmare is that the kids will grow up and leave home before we can move to a bigger house, and then me and oh will have a big house all to ourselves (d'oh)!
