I am trying to install a piece of hardware on a (networked) XP laptop - as Admin - and every time that it is installed, on reboot, either as a user or admin - it asks for the drivers to be reinstalled
Why ? and what is the fix ?

I would try removing the drivers .Removing the hardware .
Install the drivers switch off . Install the hardware reboot and hope the drivers are found and install .

Maybe I didn't explain well enough
I have the drivers (CD) and this is accepted by the system, but on reboot (necessary to use the device) - it asks for the drivers again.....
This is under admin & users !!0 -
You haven't said what this secretive 'piece of hardware' actually is, so we can't help you by Googling to see if other people have had a similar problem and perhaps found a solution!
(Thinks: wonder whether you have done this already?)0 -

This piece of HW is a (wait for it) Lego digger - in use by a school for learning robotics - it is controlled wirelessly !!0 -

It is still worth a try it is free and it M$ way of trying to allow Xp / Vista to work more like W7 for hardware. If it does not solve the problem then nothing is lost but maybe 5 mins of your time.;)4.8kWp 12x400W Longhi 9.6 kWh battery Giv-hy 5.0 Inverter, WSW facing Essex .
