Which router ?

Being rather thick in the technology department can anyone offer me some advice.
I need a router and don't know what to buy.
The one I had a netgear one was fine but I need to buy a new one and wonder what I should be buying.
It's just for me and OH to use (I'm vista and he's windows 7) will this make a difference on what I should be getting as the one we had was only ever used for vista?.
Also are all routers secure,I shop online a lot and access my bank ect so I worry about things like this.
Sorry to seem so dim but I realy have no understanding of such things.
Any advice would be welcomed,thankyou.

  • The only dependence a router has on an operating system is if there is a setup program for the router. But these cause more problems than they are worth and you can always setup without a setup program.

Who is your internet provider? the best router to get from an MSE perspective will be getting your ISP to send you one for free by threatening to leave to one that will give you a free one (likely you''ll need to commit to stay with them for 12 months but if you were doing that anyway it'll essentialls be free)

All routers are capable of being similarly secure or insecure depending on whether you set them up correctly.

whats wrong with the netgear? did it break?
