Help linking a printer to two laptops?

I am sorry for being technologically challenged but I wondered if someone could help me with what equipment or cables I need to link a printer to two machines. The printer is a HP 6500 officejet wireless and is plugged into the laptop by a USB. I have tried on numerous occasions to get it to connect wirelessly so would like to plug in by USB but am not sure what kind of splitter box (?) I would need to connect. Any ideas would be mostly appreciated :D

If it's wireless then not sure why you don't connect them wirelessly.

  • I take it you have both machines connected via a router. If you connect the printer to 1 laptop, you can access it from the other with no extra hardware using windows networking. Or your router might have a print server embedded into it. Or you could buy an ethernet print server and leave it connected to the router.

Sorry, did not read your post correctly. Why give up on the wireless and ask for tech help here on the second best way of doing it?

What did you do to try and connect wirelessly?

You need to plug the printer in to one of the PCs using a USB cable, then share the printer (via the Control Panel in Windows OSes). The printer should then be available to all PCs on your network.
