Lying EA!!!

Options
Im sorry but I really have to get this out of my system. Part upset part raving mad.

When we put an offer in for our house the estate agent said they wanted a quick sale (as did vendors when we went to see the house) and that they were splitting up and chain free.

Had the F&F list today only to discover oh no they havent even found a house yet!! Phoned vendor and he was stunned that we'd been told it was chain free. Its 1 month into this and they still havent found somewhere to go...now come on we're all set to exchange and now their telling us this???!!!

We've found tenants for this house already for november, which would have been no problem date wise except for this bombshell. Not happy at all. Even when we asked the vendors why they were moving from a brand new house after 9 monthts it was 'personal reasons'.

What the hell can i do but wait and wait now...could be new year even if its a long chain. We just dont have that luxury as we have waiting good tenants.

This close to pulling out tomorrow :(

Sounds to me like its the vendors and not the EA that has lied, I wish everyone wouldnt allways blame them.Sounds like they have changed their mind. Quite common actually. They should however have let you know, it would only be polite. Dont cut your nose off to spite youe face though, tell them that under the circumstances, you will give them a few weeks to find. Hope it sorts itself out.
    Pawpurrs x ;)
  • Once again let's blame the EA!!!
My home is usually the House Buying, Renting and Selling Forum where I can be found trying to (sometimes unsucessfully) prove that not all Estate Agents are crooks. With 20 years experience of Sales/Lettings and having bought and sold many of my own properties I've usually got something to say ;)

I can't fault our EA's at all. They have been very helpful, very professional and have given us updates once or twice a week. They had the lowest fees too, and I was a bit wary that they might skimp in their service because we had knocked them down on fees, but I couldnt be more wrong.

I'm so sick of hearing that EA's are bad! See past the end of your nose and stop tarring everyone with the same brush. I find your comment quite offensive!

very constructive posts!. im sure she feels better for your support,if you bothered reading shes angry, and when angry you rant, its only a rant not a post to start putting her down
You're not drunk if you can lie on the floor without holding on
  • Thanks robwend...I dont have anyone else to "blame" as seller wasnt aware we'd been told no chain it came from the EA no one else...first time i've had to complain about that they were good all along till now.

Anyway ill just wait and see i guess. Thanks again robwend :)
  • Not knocking all estate agents as there are good and bad in all professions, but our one definitely lied to us. We've sold our house to FTB's, then a couple of days later we put an offer in on a house we want to buy - the estate agent told us that the people we are buying from had found a house that they were buying and there was an old lady in it who was going into a home - end of chain. However, once the offer had been accepted, no more than two to three hours later, suddenly the old lady wasn't going into a home at all and needs to find a flat. Three weeks later she is still looking. Okay haven't been waiting months yet like some, but the two scenarios are very, very different - especially as there could be a chain on the flat she ends up buying.
