connecting a washing machine to a tap

I have just moved into a new house and I want to install a washing machine. However there was not one previously and there doesnt seem to be easy access to the plumbing. Am I correct in saying that with the right device I can just connect it to the kitchen tap and put the outlet in to the sink? If so what device do I need? Is it just a case of making the fitting of the washing machine pipe water tight with the tap?

Any advice would be much appreciated.

Many thanks

Gidon

  • Given the wide variety of taps and mixer taps these days, you aren't likely to get something to fit on your tap successfully. Have you thought about adding a tap somewhere using a self cutting tap like this http://www.ultimatehandyman.co.uk/how_to_fit_a_self_cutting_tap.htm
There's some other info on their about plumbing and waste pipes too.

You do get a poorer flow rate with SCT, but I've used them with 2 washing machines and a dishwasher, and they worked fine.
