tax credits stopped with no warning??

Can anyone help?
I rang the tax office to submit new figures by end of July as i hadn't received a renewal pack. They accepted them and a week later i had a letter telling me what my monthly payments would be.However the letter also said that my tax credits had stopped in June even though it said I was still entitled to them. In fact they stopped at the end of May and I hadn't noticed!(I'm a busy harrassed mum!)
I had no notification that they would stop so had no reason to expect this either. I have rung numerous times and i have been told my case has been passed to a 'team leader' . This was at the beginning of August but I've since heard nothing. On one recent phone call I was told that I apparantly didn't respond to two letters they sent to me in Sept 2009 and they were returned as 'undelivered'. They say there was a problem with my address and these letters were not sent to my correct address ( hence the reason I didn't respond to them!). Therefore it appears my tax credits have stopped because I didn't respond to letters that I never received!! HELP!! What's more- why did they send letters to a different address when I haven't moved for ten years???
ANY IDEAS PLEASE!!

I don't understand how you didn't notice them stopping since May. Did you not need the money ? I think I would have noticed a big drop in my payfreddiecider wrote: »In fact they stopped at the end of May and I hadn't noticed!(I'm a busy harrassed mum!)0 -
chances are if you didnt move address, the postie posted it through the wrong door and whoever received it did the right thing by sending it back instaed of opening it and reading all your personal info. TCO would have then set your address as "RLS" (return letter service) Its done to protect you.
I do wonder why the CTC is so important all of a sudden when it stopped in May? None of my business mid you, just an observation.Saving money like a trouper...0 -
Hi
Thanks for replies.
Didn't realise they'd stopped as I was in and out of hospital for a while( that's another story I won't go into)but trying to keep some sense of normality going at home with children etc.It was only the June payment that I had not noticed as this was during these times.
Things is- weirdly the tax office said it wasn't something as simple as mistakenly being put through the rong door- it was a completely different address( which they won't disclose).
We haven't moved for ten years so I don't know how they can have a different address?!0
