Council parking ticket dispute - can it hurt my credit history?

Options
I am disputing a ticket with Mendip District Council. I have a ticket, they have some photos of my car at convenient angles not showing it in my windscreen.

I intend to fight it all the way, as I can't see any court ruling in their favour when I have the ticket to prove I paid.

My question is, if I went to court and lost, would I get a CCJ? I have to confess that I don't really know what a CCJ is as my debt problems have never got that far out of control.

I'm confident in my case, but I'm aware that in court the right person doesn't always win. I don't want to risk my credit file since I still have the ambition to get a mortgage one day.

Any advice would be much appreciated! :)

  • Presumably Mendip are decriminalised parking. If so parking does not go to court but to a tribunal, it only goes there if the tribunal finds for the council and you still refuse to pay up. If not decriminalised it will then go to magistrates court and no ccj there.
I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.

    Seconded, no CCJ applies.

Casanova check that Mendip are decriminalised as far as parking enforcement is concerned. Are appeals to be addressed to the Council (read the PCN small print)?

Here's a link to pepipoo forums, that's where to post if you want to get off this PCN:

    http://forums.pepipoo.com/index.php?showforum=30

Read the FAQs and stickies first on that forum, so you know what to do. And then attach a pic of the front & back of the PCN (all small print but blank out your car ID) to a new thread on that board.

PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

That's a relief, thanks to you both. It is the council that have issued the ticket, consider(ed) the appeal and whom I have been in correspondence with regarding it, not one of those private parking companies.

I will have a good look at the Pepipoo forums tomorrow when I am a bit more awake and able to absorb information!
