A nice hotel in Malta for a romantic break?

Hi all,

Can anyone recommend a nice hotel in Malta near to sandy beaches?

Not into night life, just access to a few nice restaurants, and not too far from the airport as only there a few days.

Many thanks

  • Not too worried about the Sandy beaches, have been reading that a lot of it is rock.

So any good recommendations on towns and good hotels I would be very grateful, Trip Advisor is so enormous now I feel stunned when I look on there.

If you have been somewhere you loved do let me know

    Thanks

The Crown Hotel (4*) is one to avoid - we watched fleas moving about in the lift! Rancid pork on the menu - McDonalds done well out of us that week and we hate McDonalds!
  • Mellieha has a lovely beach and isnt a place to go for the night life. Spent a lovely week there a couple of years ago without the kids.
  • If you only have a few days then stay at a hotel in Valletta, a fantastic place. Not sure of hotels as we always rent a villa, but theres quite a few hotels there.

  • We also stayed at Mellieha Bay(few years ago), decent enough place.Think its one of only two sandy beaches on the Island. The only downside if you can call it that is its out on a limb (more remote) than other resorts. That said we enjoyed it, great sitting outside in the evening with a glass looking at the Bay and houses lit up aroung the Bay.......
  • We stayed in Valleta for a few days earlier this year. It's perfect for a romantic break & the buses are great for getting around the Island to see more if you wanted to. We got a great deal with Airmiles at the Hotel Phoenicia. It's 5 star so would normally be quite expensive but it's worth shopping around to see if you can get any deals out of season. They do have their own website but not sure if I can post a link to it?
  • Do you HAVE to go to Malta...?
Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..
  • Malta is so small that you can stay at the furthest point away from the airport (not Gozo) and still be there in under 45 minutes. As to sandy beaches... well, not many, but lots of the bigger hotels have nice pools, and Malta is really not expensive.

For nightlife, you want St Julians and Paceville.
