Songs to DVD disc to be played in a CD player

Can someone help please. I asked my friend if DVD disks can be burnt then played in a CD player when the songs are burned onto it, she said yes but now my CD player doesn't seem to want to play the DVD disk with the songs on it and its causing me a headache as its beyond my capabilities where technology is involved. If you could help I would be eternally grateful!

    Your friend is wrong.

A standard CD player will play CDs. A DVD isn't a CD, even though they share the same appearance and physical dimensions.

Therefore, you can't play a burnt DVD on a CD player. Some DVD players will, however, play CDs and CDRs.

A 'CD player' won't play data discs (i.e. containing mp3s), and this appears to be the OP's problem - trying to play a DVD on what appears to be a standard CD player, i.e. one which will only recognise a 'red book' CD.
  • ah right, i thought she could be wrong. Thanks for your help

Just play it on your dvd player even better if you have a sound system connected to your dvd player/tv as well.
  • its for school as i wanted to put some commands on it so the children could go and play the instruction for the area they were using and then go on to the area to do the activity, but i'll have to go and buy cds for it. Anyone know anywhere cheap to get them from, like Morrisons?

I've been getting Maxell CDRs from Asda recently - reliable, and quite keenly priced.
  • Is there some confusion here? Although a DVD and a CD are the same size they are different formats. You cannot play a DVD in a normal CD player. You can burn a CD from mp3's so that you can play it on most CD players (if you have blank recordable CDs). The software on my Dell allows selecting "Audio CDs for Car or Home Stereo". This burns an audio CD from mp3s. Some CD players bought in the last few years can play mp3's stored on a CD. I've a PURE DMX-25 which is old enough to be discontinued which does this, as does the Sony system my wife has; also the CD player in my car does it. Many DVD players will play mp3's recorded on CD or DVD. DVD players can usually handle CDs as well as DVDs. (Blu-Ray disks are also the same size but won't play or either CD or older DVD players)
