Lakeland Holiday park (Haven)

Options
Hi All,

We have a 3 night Sun holiday break at the Haven holiday park in Lakeland (south cumbria) at the end of the month.

Anyone stayed here that could offer advice as to what attractions there are local to the park etc?

Thanks in advance:beer:

  • We used the Haverthwaite steam railway to Lakeside and caught the boat across to bowness on Windermere. Had a lovely day out. We hired a rowing boat. It wasn't the cheapest day out, but was enjoyed by kids, teens and adults. You can also get to Ambleside on the boat if you want to explore the Lakes a bit more.

There is also a childrens farm near the park.

Grange over Sands is a nice little town, but my teens weren't impressed.

If I think of anything else I will post later.

The park is one of the best Haven parks I have been to, and I have been to a few.
  • I stayed at this park last year, it is prone to flooding and we did not get the correct standard of mobile home we paid for, but those issues aside, the park itself is lovely. You can walk through the park and through the neighbouring field (with the sheep) to get to the beautiful Morecambe bay, just be aware that because this is a tidal estuary you can easily be stranded on sandbanks! In the local area there is Duckys farm http://www.duckysparkfarm.co.uk/, which is fab for little kids, a nice stroll will take you into Flook, a five minute car ride to Grange, which is quite quaint. There is a car museum locally, as well as the Manjushri Buddhist temple http://nkt-kmc-manjushri.org/temple/ and several stately homes http://www.holker.co.uk/metadot/index.pl?id=2171. If you go a little further to Dalton in Furness there is the fabulous South Lakes Wild Animal Park, which is fairly reasonable in price and definitely worth the money, but for a little more off the price, visit one of the local newsagents for maybe a drink, then produce the receipt at the entrance to the park and they will discount your tickets!! http://www.wildanimalpark.co.uk/wildlifepark_home.asp. If you wish to travel towards the Yorkshire Dales, they have some lovely walks http://www.ingletonwaterfallstrail.co.uk/ and caves to visit http://www.whitescarcave.co.uk/

All in all, I definitely recommend this holiday park for a base, but do take your food with you, as the nearest decent supermarket is over 10 miles away and the park one charges the earth!!

If they go that way might as well drop in on Kendal and Kirby Lonsdale. Historic Lancaster is only 20 miles down the M6 from Kendal. Then there's Morecambe, go and have a photo with Eric Morecambe, with the Lakesland Hills as a back-drop. Morecambe has got a lovely long promenade too with glorious views out into the Bay (but don't look inward to the town!).

Duckys is great, there is also a really good ice cream farm on the way out of grange.

if you go to morecambe park down the end of the prom and visit happy mount park the kids would love it.

There is loads to do from your door step, our favourite is the south lakes wild anilmal park at dalton, where a baby tiger has just been born

this is a good list of things near the haven site LINK

the co-op in gragne has a good selection otherwise next closet are booths in Ulverston or Morrisons/Asda/Booths in Kendal

would suggest tesco.com and get a delivery or use some of the great local shops

Higginsons Butchers - fantsatic saussages, Grange Bakery, Fletchers fruit & veg. Pauls Butchers in Flookburgh, the Bread Shed in Cartmel, Cartmel Cheese shop .... rather than the supermarket ****
