Diesel pinking

My 2003 renault Scenic diesel dci has done 90k miles and pinks when accelerating.
Should I be worried and can I prevent it?

Are you sure it's not pump clatter? As I understand pinking it is pre ignition of the fuel. Not sure if that can happen with compression ignition.
This is an open forum, anyone can post and I just did !
  • Thanks, how do I tell? It sounds like pinking I used to get years ago with my Ford Escort.

Not really sure how to describe the difference in a noise, I'd ask a decent mechanic to come for a drive.

  • diesel can suffer knocking that can sound a bit like pinking.
normally a sign of injector spray pattern or dribbling issue.

get a diesel tech to take a look at it
  • Thanks again, will go to a garage when I return to the UK next month. Now, how do I find a good garage who won't rip me off?

In that case you can only go by recomendation. Any good garage will have a specialist (outside of their buissiness),that they use for complex diesel issues, but there again you have to be able to ask a good garage in the 1st place. ;);)
I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.

Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)

Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed
