help with Tiny 810L upgrade

Options
Hi,

my mate has a Tiny 810L that he needs upgrading & my days of desktop support went out of the window shortly after pentiums arrived!

It has a Intel PIII 750Mhz processor & 256MB of RAM

any idea what the max CPU I can put in it is & are there any restictions on memory like you have to have the same in both slots or anything? It currently has 2 128MB 100Mhz SDRAM cards in.

Also how do you normally get into the BIOS on tiny PC's?

The only usefull looking markings on the motherboard is MS-6165 ver 2.1?

Thanks for any advice,
worto.

    hummmm

some things don't seem to add up. Like
    Processor
    l Socket 370 for Intel® CeleronTM processor.
    l Support 300MHz, 333MHz, 366MHz, 400MHz, 433MHz, 466MHz, or faster.
    l Support Core/Bus Ratios: x2, x2.5, x3, x3.5, x4, x4.5, x5, x5.5, x6, or higher

    Main Memory
l Supports four memory banks using two 168-pin unbuffered DIMM.
l Supports a maximum memory size of 256MB DIMM only.
    l Supports 3.3v SDRAM DIMM.

It already has a 750Mhz processor in it? Also it definately has 2 128MB 100Mhz SDRAM simms in it already & that fills both availiable slots while according to this manual there are 4 memory banks?

    getting confused,
    worto.

HI-- May I suggest that he gets a NEW motherbaord, chip and RAM.

The ones he has are quite old -- you will be hard pressed to get stuff for that board.

Or -- he may want to try LINUX.

    Cheers

yeah it all looks a bit old to be honest I just wanted to know if it would take anything faster.

If I'm gonna tell him to upgrade the motherboard, RAM & CPU then we may as well just buy a new PC.

If I can find out what it'll take I can probably find what I need by asking around a few people & getting 2nd hand bits for next to nothing or free. Obviously if that CPU & memory is the top the M\b will take then I'll just tell him to look into a new PC instead.

    worto.

    Get a mac

Oh well at least you bumped my thread back to the top :D

If I know the socket type printed on the CPU socket does that give away what processor it will take?

i meant, if you are out to buy / build a new PC - why not look at the latest range from Apples' Mac line.

They are just great - got myself a MacBook Pro about three months ago, haven't looked back since! Don't think I would ever go back to a PC, especially as the Apples are made so well, and if you have to run something via Win XP, then you can!
