Flight times change all the time - it seems you've been lucky enough to never have experienced it before. Whether it's by 10 minutes or 10 hours.
All forms of transport experience time changes.
If you haven't booked them together then i really doubt there is anything you can do.
Airlines wouldn't exist if they offered everyone a refund for such a small time change.0

            Found this on their website
Schedules are subject to change without notice. American is not responsible for or liable for failure to make connections, or to operate any flight according to schedule, or for a change to the schedule of any flight. Under no circumstances shall American be liable for any special, incidental or consequential damages arising from the foregoing.

You would have accepted all terms & conditions before booking. I know it's lengthy to read everything before proceeding with a booking but it covers them.0

would it be viable to change the flight from Rochester to NYC, either to an earlier flight that day or to possibly even the day before, and stay over.
Looking at it another way, what would your parents have done if the flight times hadn't changed, but their flight was delayed from Rochester to NYC, say due to technical problems, weather etc...........
Not sure what the rules are over there, but here in England if you have 2 totally seperate bookings, then neither has any influence on the other booking whatsoever.
Perfect when all goes well, but a nightmare when things like this happen.
Hope your parents get something sorted.I used to be a Travel Agent Used to be a travel agent for 23 Years, but now out of the industry. However I will help with what i can.0

It's a shame as you can get Jet Blue from Rochester through to Barbados - connecting in JFK. The flight leaves JFK only 15 minutes after the AA flight but it's guaranteed.
Anyway the only AA flight as you know now leaves at 08:00. No way can they risk it getting in at 07.17 from Rochester.
So you have 2 choices. See if AA will re-route them on a later flight (non direct, so it's via Miami). If not, then just shell the Rochester - NY ticket (probably cost them US$50 or cheaper?) if it's non-changeable.
Get into JFK instead the night before, and sort out a cheap hotel (if possible!!).
Just don't risk the connection, as that's their holiday up in smoke...0

AA and JetBlue a commercial agreement for New York flights. They offer an "interline service" that allows one-stop booking and check-in and automatic bag transfers. But apparently that's not enough to change from the BA flight to the 8.15 JetBlue one.0

having previously had a very simple EDI-LHR-NCE trip (with plenty time between) on separate tickets and the EDI-LHR being delayed so much we missed the connection and sat in LHR all day on standby for the evening flight (they didn't need to allow us to standby, could have insisted on new tickets) I always travel the night before for a morning connection0

But doesn't that significantly increase the cost and hassle of your trips? If I had to pay for an airport hotel room every time I had a morning flight, I would not have gone on half of the trips.
The vast, vast majority of flights are on time. And when they're not, most airlines still take responsibility for getting you to your final destination. Maybe not Ryanair, but the big ones do.
A couple years ago, my flight to Bangkok was 14 hours late. Obviously, I missed the connection. Who plans to leave 15 hours in between flights?! When we landed, the representative of the airline went to a cash point, withdrew cash, and bought connecting tickets for those of us who needed them. It took ages, but at least I got to Chiang Mai.0

Exactly...if an AA passenger misses a connection to another AA flight booked on the same ticket, they'll get you to your destination one way or the other...AA are no different than anyone else in this respect.
As for significant increased cost to stay the night before -we always stay at a hotel the night before a flight out of a London airport...and we live in London. The £60-£100 (could be had cheaper, but we have our preferences) we pay for this is really, really worth the peace of mind to us not to have to worry about unexpected delays the morning of our flight...maybe to some that would be a significant amount of money but to us it's worth it and makes it seem like the holiday starts a night early....to us it takes away the hassle, it doesn't add to it.Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?0
