What the hell is this?

Just went out somewhere in my car and suddenly I felt this hitting my foot :S

    The stalk looks like it fits on a rotary dial type switch - headlights, dimmer/rheostat for dash lighting, heating controls etc etc.
    The man without a signature.

    Its a fiesta 1996. I checked the lights and they all worked. I can push the long bit in and out.

    Clutch pedal switch.

    Normally they've been broken years, either clip it back in (at the top of the pedal) or just tie it up out the way.

    It serves no purpose to the drivability of the car, just increases the revs slightly when the engine is cold, and intereacts with the VSS during gearchanges, but the car will run exactly the same without it.

    Doesn't look like a brake-pedal switch, but just double check your brake lamps work.

    Completely useless device, just tie it up out the way and forget about it.
