credit card tart

Hi,
I have been a credit card tart for a few years now and never had any problems switching when the time runs out on my interest free. My current card is due to start charging me interest on the 20th of this month but I cannot get another card as various bakns/building societies keep refusing me (I have only tried applying online). I accessed my credit score and its good and I have not moved in 6 years etc.

Please help me figure out what to do next before I start paying very high interest. Does your time of being a credit card tart just run out :)

  • Looks like it doesn't it - the more applications you make the more desperate you look to a potential new lender.

You don't say how much you owe on the cards in relation to your salary but..............?

I've been happily tarting for a few years but got my first knockback last month. Stupidly I forgot to check on the details of the card I was applying for and had missed the fact it's all part of the same group as one of my other cards.
It may be a daft question but have you cancelled all your other cards? I don't mean just stopped using them but actually cancelled them properly? If you don't it can appear you still have credit with them as technically you could start using their card again. Also if you do cancel them then sometimes you can open a new account with them, with all the offers, a couple of years down the line - I'm on my 2nd spell of 0% BT for a year with sainsbury's card

Things may have been different before the economy went bottom up, but now I definitely think it's not possible to tart forever. I got away with it for a couple of years, but for the last year every application I've made has been turned down - despite (or perhaps because of) the fact that I have never defaulted on a payment and that my debt has steadily decreased over the last two years (borrowed a shed-load interest free to buy a new car, but have systematically paid it back).

Sickening as it is not to have met my own challenge of borrowing that amount completely interest-free, I am still able to rationalise it a little - even though I am now paying credit card interest rates, taking the two years interest free into account, over the full term of the 'loan' I have still paid less interest than I would have done had I taken out a 'proper' loan to begin with. IYSWIM?
  • Afraid it looks like payback time, It had to come sooner or later.

    Never say never, but...............!

I've been getting away with it for the past 15 years and the past couple of years have made little/no difference to me. If you've a decent salary and an excellent credit history then the current economic climate will have far less (if much) impact at all.
There's no reason at the moment why tarting won't continue to flourish for the foreseeable future even if it does come in a different guise in the future.
