Well i have spent today up a ladder with a paintbrush and intend to try and make my house a bit more marketable.........

have lobbied long suffering friends for half used tins of paint;)

starting in the kitchen only 5 more rooms to go and that doesn't include the hall stairs and landing !!!!

just hope it doesn't rain when i finally get it on the market as the viewers will see where the rain comes thro the roof on the landing :(

on a positive side if i manage to find a job that will pay me enough to cover my mortgage ( and £15,000 should do it ...not being greedy !!!!)

Then i may just have a nicely decorated house by christmas lol

and now i'm on a decorating mission i'm bound to find a job :D

so win win ( well a girl can dream lol !!!)

What's YHM stand for? I can normally work it out if I haven't seen it before but this has got me confuddled :o:D

  • Hi, Another new one to the site..Have just recieved a letter from northern rock telling me to expect a letter from the DWP about my mortgage payments, so decided to give the bank and the DWP a call. They seem so vague over whats going on but the DWP did tell me that it looks like it will be around £60 a month shortfall, and although it seems like very little, i really don't know what i'm going to do. I have had to give up my job to look after my father who has alzeimers and can not be left on his own nor can he go in a home as he crys and is very distressing for me, so i decided to help my mum and i'm with him for around 50 hours a week. Does anyone know if there is allowances made in these circumstances ? i am out of my mind about this and i'm trying to put on a brave face infront of my 14 year old daughter. My heart goes out to everyone who are facing much higher amounts than me, and i hope there wil be some resolution to this and especially the carers of people with illness. Have tried the citizens advice but its a recorded message telling me to call back due to high volume of call. good luck everyone.

    Hello Katrin

I fully understand your panic on this.
Your mortgage lender is the first port of call; tell them that you will have great difficulty meeting the shortfall and see if they can help at all. My lender (Standard Life) couldn't help me, but it's worth asking all the same.....
If there's no joy from Northern Rock, I would book an appt with CAB, as they may agree to write to N.R. stating the implications of your case (maybe your MP would do the same?)

In the meantime, sit down with a cuppa and a clear head, and make a list of all of your outgoings and see what you can reduce. I was already living a very basic lifestyle, but I've still managed to shave some money off my outgoings:

I've cancelled my life insurances for now (not advisable for all)

Lessened my food shopping bill per week by one third, and will be making my own bread (never done before!)

I've always been hot on getting the cheapest monthly elec and gas tariffs, but I've just changed my already cheap NPower plan to the very cheapest they have and that will save over £50.00 a year.

This Christmas, I will make presents and there will be no bought gifts.

I will no longer visit a typical hairdressers, and will go to my local college and get my haircut by a two year trainee for £5.50.

There have been a few other examples, but I won't ramble on!
You may just be able to save £15 a week and therefore your worry will be eased - It will be tight, but it could just about be possible for you.

Do come back and let us know how you get on :)
