O so if you thought the CO alarm was going off for genuine reasons, what would you do?
Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..

I think the idea is that you investigate the cause rather than die in your sleep. No brainer for me.:A

I only fitted one last year, test it weekly, and have had NO false or true alarms for that matter. ;);)
I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.

Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)

Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed

I'm a bit confused. Why do they test the airtightness of a house when assessing it's energy efficiency... and then stipulate that all the rooms need to have ventilation to the outside?

Surely the heat conservation benefits of an airtight house are nullified by the health benefits of good ventilation.
Take a look at passive homes best of both worlds.

Me? I would switch off my central heating and my multipoint and open some windows and doors, possibly stand in the fresh air for a while. When I could switch the CO alarm back on without it beeping I would then switch the gas appliances back on one at a time to try to ascertain which appliance was causing the trouble. When I know for sure which one then I would call in someone more knowledgeable than me to check it out and repair it. ( maybe the company that fitted the appliances would do that)

Open all windows and get outside.

If I didn't ahve an alarm I would probably remain asleep and never wake up

Not really sure where your argument is coming from on this one!

Alarms should never replace servicing or proper installation procedures but they certainly should IMO be used as an added precaution. Would you not have a smoke alarm as well as they can go off when you are cooking?

What im getting at is that dont believe they are reliable and so the only sure way to check whether there is CO in the atmosphere of your home would be to carry out tests using a certificated and calibrated instrument. That could be expensive. If you ring the gas emergency service when your alarm goes off, they will simply cut you off/advise non use.

Of course they aren't fully accurate but what would you suggest as an alternative to a CO alarm then?

    None at all..

  • Hmm think most will probably choose to ignore your "advice" - but you are of course free to do as you wish!

Yes i do simply becuase you are far more likely to have a fire than to suffer CO poisoning. Also,if the smoke alarm starts tooting, the chances are there is smoke/fire and it will be apparent whereas with CO,you are left in limbo unless you fork out ££££ and find a specialist with the right kit to give it the final ok as to your safety.
