Air vent in my living room but I have no gas fire??
Hey, I just moved into a new house yesterday, new build and it is fitted with a solid fuel fire, there is Gas central heating and a boiler in a cupboard in the living/dining room.
On searching through some forums online I can see that the vent is there usually when a Gas fire is installed. I dont have a Gas fire but the draught coming in from the vent is seriously cold and will only get worse coming towards christmasI can only imagine!
Is it safe for me to cover the vent up? I know it may be there for a reason but thought I would find out what the good people of the MSE thought.
Any help or advise would be gratefully received and if you need any more info just give me a shout.
Tanks in advance

As it is a new build property, the vent can safely be assumed to have been installed to comply with latest building regs.
Whilst a gas fire would indeed require adequate ventilation, presumably a solid fuel system also requires ventilation. Things don't burn without an adequate supply of oxygen, and if it's taking it from a clsoed room you are in, you won't survive."Now to trolling as a concept. ....
