What nobody seems to have remarked upon is that re-marking could also mean that the grade goes down. I would never advise one of my students to have a paper re-marked if they had a grade that was only a few marks off the boundary. I would advise a resit. At least with a resit you know your grade cannot get any lower.

Finally, don't forget that grades, like shares, can go down as well as up, so always find out how close you were to the grade boundary before shelling out good money only to find your marks go down a grade.
