Bmi healthcare chasing for paid bill

Hi

I would be grateful of any advice I get on this..

I attended private healthcare 2 years ago under my then partners health scheme. I had to cover 10% of the cost of the any treatment / consultation which was fine.
I went to see the consultant but the realised that any treatment would have cost too much so did not go ahead with any of it.
I was sent three letters asking for the 10% payment which was £34.00 which I paid on receipt of the third request in 2008.
Since then I have heard nothing and would not expect to.
I have today received a letter from BMI Healthcare telling me that I owe them £34.00. After a very unpleasant conversation with them telling me the onus is on me to prove payment, but any company can send out a bill from years ago and say they have not been paid couldn't they?
I am not longer with any of the banks I was with in 2006 and do not have paper work going back to 2006 for anything.
I dont honestly see why I should have to prove to them that I made payment for this and I can't. So does anyone know what route this is all likely to go down. More so does anyone have ideas of who I could report these people to or any recourse I may have?
ANY advice at this point would be gratefully received.

Thank you.

  • They have to prove you owe the debt not the other way round!

Write to them and ask for the evidence, people say all sorts on the phone, they are much more careful what they write! Its just as quick if you email too! Since they are asking you for proof, they probably dont have any either! If you were in their shoes and had such proof, wouldnt you be pretty forthcoming in providing it so you could get the money you are owed!? Sounds like they are just chancing it
  • Spirehealth care (formerly known as BUPA) have been writing to me, chasing for a fee relating to a consultant's fee for the last 3 months despite contacting them to say I've paid.

Last letter I had off them threatened to take to me to court of I didn't pay .....luckily I have the receipt so if they do take me its them that will look foolish.
