Hello
My husband is suffering with Chronic Kidney Disease and is awaiting Dialysis. He is not able to do a much, he sleeps a lot during the day as he has no energy. Who would be able to give us some advice?
Many thanks for any help.

Are either of you working/employed at the moment? do you rent or own your home? any dependant children? any savings? how old are you both?0

Depends on the age of you both I guess. I would look at Disability Living Allowance if your husband can't do much for himself and needs care and is under 65 I can't see why he wouldn't qualify for that in some way. Does he get ESA or IS or IB? You havent really given us much to go on atm tbh, need more information.
ETA: You could try the CAB who will be able to advise you and possibly the welfare rights who can help you fill in any forms and help you get the help you need.0 -
I am a kidney transpalnt patient, had op in april 2000. I was told that i was not entitled to any disablitiy benefits until i was on haemodialysis, even then i did not claim it as i was only on there for less than 3 months and didnt see the point. You should be able to get ESA as long as you are not working. I will have another transplant in the near future so will go through all this when the time comes, i was on IS the last time as my son was young at the time.0

My husband is in the same boat (and with secondary conditions) and there is nothing that you can get, he even got chucked off ESA because it isnt covered by the medical you are given, while my husband cant walk far he can walk to far (for DLA purposes)and he has no more care needs (apart from walking him up, making sure hes taken his meds etc. but none that are sufficent to claim DLA) and we arnt prepared to lie to get benefits.
ESA isnt fit for purpose when organ failure isnt classed as an illness!0 -

ESA is based on what you can & can't do - not diagnosis.
so somebody who has a terminal disease and likely to die within 6 months at the moment is exempt.
But if he/she was able to work why should they be exempt?
I had a friend who had cancer yet worked right up until the week before he died!0 -

I really feel for the OP, they came on for advice and the same people will be arguing over who is and who isnt correct and over who knows which benefits more. Can you all just for once stick to facts that the OP needs and hold your digs at each other for another time? It's getting tiresome reading now tbh...0
