  • Still having trouble. A few websites are showing as availabiliy and are taking pre-booking but so far all coming back saying full.

Does anyone know the names of surrounding areas which are on a good local transport route that I can search a little further afield. Thanks
  • Travel lodge at Worksop- and catch the train? Theres a good train service to Newark too but but sure what accomodations there.
Its difficult anyway to find cheap accomodation at Lincoln- my son's at uni there.
Failing that Sheffield's an hour on the train and i think Doncaster is the same. HTH

Have provisional booking for Railway Pub, Thorpe on the Hill - does anyone know of the public transport is regular and how easy it is to get into Lincoln from there. Landlady says she thinks there is a bus every hour but she uses her car so not sure. Also if I take my car would there be a park and ride that would be easy to use as I guess the place will be manic and I'd rather not be stuck in a traffic jam.

Edit: Just checked bus route and the last bus is around 6pm from Lincoln to Thorpe on the Hill which isnt really any good as we want to go to the market in the evening. Also there's no Sunday service so we can't get back in on the Sunday! I was told its about 5 miles but google says 8.5 miles - any ideas the cost in a taxi?

Not looking so good now :(
  • I'd check out the train times and check where you can stop on a train route. Eg the last train to sheffield is 22.14. That stops at Saxilby, Gainsborough, Retford, Sheffield. Maybe check those locations or look at where train stops and times in either Doncaster, Sleaford, Peterborough or Newark directions. Buses seem to be a bit poor to me but Lincolnshire's very rural. There is a big park and ride but you might be tempted at the alcohol on offer in the market?
  • Will definitely be tempted by the alcohol in the market which is why we wanted to use public transport. I was getting the train to Lincoln as I would rather not drive. Have tried to check last bus on a Saturday from Lincoln to Thorpe and it look like about 8pm ish and no Sunday service so taxis could turn out to be expensive. How did you find the stations where the trains stops cos I can only find the start and end journeys but no stations in between. thanks.
  • Just have a play on national rail- Lincoln as departure and randomly guess the to station- then click on the journey and it will show calling points next to changes. I think the Sheffield service is best for lateness. Although i'm not 100%- i would check Newark also.
  • trying to book a twin room for sat 4 dec for my sis and I to visit Lincoln xmas market. Would like to stop over and have a few drinks but cannot get booked anywhere. Have tried the tourist board and visitlincoln.com. Visitlincoln website says they have availability but then checks with the supplier and itt comes back full all the time. Called the tourist info and they said the city is full. Not looking for something grand just clean and with breakfast as we plan to be out shopping, eating and drinking most of the time.

Stay in luxury self catering cottages at Kents Farm Cottages, Austen Fen, Louth.
The website is worldwidewebdotkentsfarmcottagesdotnet but apparently I'm not allowed to put it here as a link.
    You will need a car.
