  • You can close a credit card at any time but it will be reopened if there is a CPA on it as has happened here.

    It does depend on the merchant and the issuer. AFAIK when they put the charges through they must use valid details. When a card expires there is a scheme whereby the merchant can obtain new card details in order to process the charge. Not all merchants are on this system. I've certainly had CPAs fail when a card has expired even though my account is still open. I've also had a CPA fail after I reported the card lost.

    I don't think there is consistency in this area - but certainly CPA's can bring an account back to life, as you say.
  • Well, I've just checked my credit report and the account shows as satisfied but still 'default'. MBNA agreed to remove the default as a courtesy and this doen't appear to have happened...
