Electric breast pump

Options
Can anybody recommend a electric breast pump? I don't know if I can breast feed yet so don't want to spend to much.

Ta

(I want an electric pump so I can feel like a cow, plus I am far to lazy for a hand pump)

I have the Avent electric pump, was very easy to use and clean .... pumps straight into the bottle or the Avent beakers (from the storage sets) which was brilliant.

You have to press the button to release the suction and start again .... if that makes sense .... so it wasn't a "just sit back and do absolutely nothing while ya get milked one":D

I can say whatever I like here ... 'cos no one can see me .. ner ner ner ner ner !!!....

How do you know I ain't sitting here butt naked?!?!

I only tried an electric pump once (in the hospital) and it was quite powerful even on the lowest setting and therefore also quite painful. I had an Avent hand pump, which really and truly was no effort at all, gentle squeezing only like squeezing a stressball, and very easy to clean and sterilise. If you haven't had the baby yet, could you maybe hold off until after it is born, then see if you can try and electric pump at the hospital before you invest, as I imagine they would be quite expensive if you found out you didn't like using them. (You can also express by hand without any kind of pump, if you want to be the ultimate in moneysaving, but that really is too much like hard work!)
  • The pumps in the hospital are like those used in a commercial dairy - but my youngest is 23 so maybe things have changed!

Medela is excellent and fairly priced. I got a brand new one off Ebay for Under £25.

  • I didn't rate the electric one (for me anyway) and seemed to get very little milk whereas I found the avent hand pump more successful. It is interesting that a few of my friends have also said the same, that the hand pump is more effective?

I would also say wait until after baby is born. The electric ones are expensive too.

    Best of luck with everything.

    It's great in here! :)
  • wouldnt the hand pump also work as a stress reliever which would help during the difficult times of having a newborn child? :)

I bought a Medela on eBay, used it for nearly a year, then sold it for more than I paid for it! Easy to use and no effort at all.

I don't know half of you half as well as I should like, and I like less than half of you half as well as you deserve.
