Tigerlily is really nice, very good food and as another poster said very reasonable for Edinburgh, especially George Street! They also do a menu before 6 or 7pm which is a few pounds cheaper than the one available after but still proper dinner food.
  • I second the Vin Caffe recommendation, Urban Angel on Hanover Street is good too, Kalpna (2/3 St Patricks Square) does a good (vegetarian) Indian Lunch deal, Plaisir du Chocolat does fantastic hot chocolates and delicious handmade chocolates [which they also sell in Harvey Nicks food hall]. Victoria Street has some nice unusual shops and Ian Mellis the Cheesemonger is there too.

For ultimate money saving lunch time action, you could always go to the mosque on Bristo Sq for lunch - really big helpings and it costs about 3.50 for a big helping - it's not too fancy, but it does the job

Well I am back from Edinburgh and the hotel was excellent - I would well recommend it! The food was absolutely gorgeous and the room was really great too.

The only let down was the train journey up there - we were 3 hours late getting there - and the journey only takes 2 and half hours if no problems! When only going overnight this cut a huge chuck of retail therapy time out.

The Scottish Parliament building was ok but I wouldnt go again and think it looks a horrible building!
