I think my employer is advertising my job

I cant be 100% certain, but I have just seen an advertisement by the same recruitment company who took me on a year ago and it is word for word the same advert that I applied for.
My home circumstances have changed about 6 weeks ago (my childminder has given me notice making my costs rocket from £800 to £1600 a month). I spoke to my manager (the MD) about this and enquired about changing from full time to 3 days per week. This would enable me to pay a different childminder to look after my 2 toddlers. This request was refused but I've stayed at work but am actively seeking a part time role elsewhere working nights or 3 days per week (he doesnt know this but then again I guess it was implied just by me telling him that I am working for nothing at all).
Today I have seen the advert which was loaded on 8th September 2010.
What can I do if he decides to give me notice and replace me? I have no warnings against my work record, impeccable timekeeping and havent had a day off sick since I started here.

This is a guess on your part. It may not be true at all. But it is simple - if you have 52 weeks employment (51 weeks at work plus one weeks statutory notice) then you cannot be dismissed without good reason. If you don't then you can be dismissed for for any reason at all, and unless you can demonstrate that the reason for the dismissal was discrimination (or a small number of other things) then there is not a lot that you can do. But I emphasise - you are guessing, and it may not be the case.0

They can't just get rid of you. If they make your role redundant then they can't advertise the same role.0

What the???
Thanks for the posts - no I havent been here a year exactly - mid October I joined.
There are too many coincidences that stack up to this advertisement being my job though. The advert was published on 8th September. He returned from 3 weeks annual leave on the 6th September. On Friday I took a call for him from the agency who said it was "just to check how he's getting on with the CV's I sent him". This particular agency deals with our Admin staff (I am his PA and HR Manager so I would normally know if we are advertising for staff - though sometimes he does go and recruit on a whim without discussing it with me).Trying to become debt free but this site makes me spend a fortune!!!

Sit tight and say nothing until after your first anniversary.
Also you could call the ACAS helpline.
Good luck, hope it works out for the best for you.

Sorry, not being rude but if this is your field of work then I'm amazed by the question in the final paragraph of your original post ! ? !0 -

I understand. I am not qualified in the field of HR and never have been but I have an extensive network provided to me by my company who I can call on for any matters outside my expertise. I am a PA, who just happens to also run the HR function for this company.
Obviously though, I can't exactly call our Employment Lawyer about this one!Trying to become debt free but this site makes me spend a fortune!!!

why don't you apply for the job you think you're boss is advertising.
You never know, you might be successful.0 -

Thanks but its full time! :rotfl:
My sister is applying for it for me! She's got a similar work background and a different surname so lets see what happens today...Trying to become debt free but this site makes me spend a fortune!!!

you told you boss you don't want the job he employed you to do.
You have been there less than a year
Looks like you will be gone if he finds someone. no suprise since you also told him you are working for nothing, you gave away too much information.
Even if you had been there for up to to years he could easily make you redundant(no redundancy pay) and replace you( it is esier than most people think even though not really allowed).
If you are looking through the agency that he has used, I bet he got a call and knows you are looking.0
