Guys,

I'm looking to go travelling next year, so want to open a savings account but I'm bit unsure which would be best for my situation.

I would be looking to save about £300 a month and would need access to the money probably around November 2007.

Ipswich BS target saver for £250pm @ 8.25% over 12 months.

Halifax BS Regular Saver @ 7% for the other £50.

Both these mature into instant access accounts in time for your travels.

If you don't want the hassle & just want the one account you can save up to £500 with Yorkshire BS @ 6.5% and this could continue beyond the first 12 months up to November 2007 when you want your dosh.

I assume you don't want access to the money while you are away.

If so, the bet bet would be to first use up your ISA allowance for 06/07. The 07/08 allowance should then also be used until you return.

If you have laready used your ISA allowance for 06/07, a regular saver, like the Lloyds, Ipswich building society or Halifax ones should be your next choice.

They each have a limit of £250 per month. So you could open two regular savers, one fully funded at £250 a month, the other of £50 a month.

However, that isn't to say you should chose a different strategy.
