Restaurant booking - 1 short

I've arranged a night out with colleagues tonight, having booked for 29 people. Trouble is, I've just realised that I've counted one person twice, so we're only 28! /facepalm.
The booking form said that numbers could be confirmed at a minimum 24 hours notice. Where do I now stand in respect of the 'extra' place - should the restaurant only charge me for the 28 meals cooked and served, or will I have to meet the cost of the 29th out of my own pocket?

Surely between 28 people they should be happy to chip in between them. Yes its your mistake but then you did go to the trouble of organising.
What have the restaurant said?0 -
I would call them asap and be honest and say you counted twice but in all fairness I would imagine with them still getting money for 28 meals they should waiver the 29th!0
-
Have you spoken to them. I really don't think they'd care, unless you've pre-ordered 29 meals in advance.0

Having done weddings, and others, I would ring the place asap and say that due to blah blah blah, only 28 of us can make the meal tonight! Cos if yous does not ask, you do not get.
On the night, make sure that if you pay a service charge, you get the service you asked for. If not do not pay. I once did not get the bar service I asked and paid a deposit for, and when said host raked on her Service charge, I explained that we are not going to pay it, because we had not got the service. I won
Also make sure everyone’s food is to their liking. I was annoyed when I returned to work to find the lam had been awful. If I had known on the knight, the kitchen would have gone nuclear.0 -
Have you paid a deposit per person?0

Unless you're paying upfront then isn't normally a problem, but tell them *now* - if you haven't already.
In any case IME it's perfectly normal if arranging something for 30 people for and handful of them not to turn up anyway!0 -
Phone them. And if they wont deduct it, don't leave a tip - at all.
Also, if a service charge is added, and it isn't compulsary - make sure you get it removed!0 -
Failing that - can you find someone else to drag along with you!!0
