Should I use Visa Debit or Mastercard?

in Credit cards
Hi all,
I want to purchase some flights costing approximately £1,750. I was planning on using my Mastercard to purchase them as this gives me a month to pay and gives me the protection of the credit card guarantee should anything go wrong (e.g. ash cloud or airline failure). However, this would incur a 2% fee i.e. £35 approx.
The 2% fee negates any financial benefit from having the money in my savings account.
I'm aware that there is a VISA Debit chargeback scheme. Does this afford a similar level protection as the credit card guarantee or is there still an advantage in paying by credit card? i.e. would any additional protection from paying by credit card be worth the £35 in extra cost?

Do you have the option of paying £100 on the credit card and the rest on the Debit card?0

I believe that the Visa debit chargeback isn't anywhere near as good as the protection you get on a credit card.
However, £35 sounds a lot to pay for that protection.
My gut instinct is to pay on debit card and get travel insurance.0 -

It's not a guarantee - it makes the issuer jointly liable for the performance of the contract.
There is a huge difference.0
