Laptop wont start! Makes 3 loud beeps. Please help!

Hello! Help!

I have been trying to turn on my laptop this morning but it wont start. I press the power button, the lights come on, the laptop makes the normal starting sounds, then it makes 3 loud beeps, 1 long, 2 short, and nothing else. I have to hold down the power cable to turn it off.

I have tried alternating between battery, cable and both, for power, but it hasn't helped.

It worked as normal yesterday.

Model is hp dv2000 running windows 7 (upgrade from xp).

I'm also using an external monitor as laptop screen is blank and doesn't work anymore, and still having problems with the power supply as laptop wont shut down when plugged in, it continuously restarts itself (Ongoing problem for a few years now).

Any ideas please???!?

This seems to suggest there is an error with the Video Adaptor. I suggest giving HP a ring. Is it still under warranty (probably not if you've had it a few years)

EDIT: Have a read apparently it is a known problem

Will have to call hp. But its definitely out of warranty as I got it in late 2006.

Progress update: I have followed the steps from the HP support page but it still isn't working.

I have emailed HP customer and am awaiting a reply.

But it doesn't look good for my lappy. Sob Sob.:(
