Lloyds TSB and Credit Check

Hi all,

I was hoping for some advice! I applied for a Lloyds TSB Current Account as a way of getting their ridiculously high regular saver rate, as championed by Martin :money: .

However, they have turned me down for an account based on my credit rating, something which has never happened to me before, as I have no debt! I have one gold credit card (limit £7600) which I spend about £1000 on a month, and is paid off by direct debit. My husband and I also have a high-paying joint account which is currently in credit by quite some way.

Now, because I am suspicious, I think this may be down to the previous occupant of my house who shared my (extremely common) forenames, Rebecca Louise. I got married in July and suspect they may think I was her before I got married?! Does this make sense?! Is this a possibility?

If not, what about my situation would give me a low credit rating? I am completely at a loss. Before I apply to Equifax and Experian (have already printed the letters but would like to save myself £4 if possible) could anyone offer any advice?

Sorry for the long post!

  • not sure about the ins and outs in your messge, but if you go onto https://www.experian.co.uk you can join their 'creditexpert' service for 30 days free. This gives you access to your credit report for free and will save you paying them for information.

Also, if you use any cashback websites they pay (I think) £2.50 on Freefivers and £5 on topcashback for you to join.

Just remember to cancel before the 30 days are up.

I joined a while back and had a look through my credit report, then cancelled. I was asked why and I just said I didn't think the service was what I wanted. No hard sale.
  • Thanks for that. I already tried it but was told that they "could not verify my identity" and they wanted me to send them originals of my passport, driving licence and bills.... er... no thanks. I'd rather pay the £2 than risk all that lot getting lost.

I'm fed up with money hassles. It just seems constant! Every time I get in touch with a bank for whatever reason they mess it up and I end up doing the chasing, it sucks!!

  • Send your £2s to Experian, equifax, and CallCredit. If they've created a link with the previous occupant, tell them to get it removed and advise Llloyds and anywhere else that's searched you.
Be wary of applying for anything else until your happy all is OK, as more searches make for fewer points on your credit scores.
  • Thanks Will. Luckily this is the first search that's been turned down so I'll get it sorted now! Will send off letters to all three companies today and will let you all know what shows up... I'm dreading it!!!

Whilst you will need to send for your CallCredit file by post, you can order your £2 statutory reports from Experian and Equifax online if you have a debit or credit card - it's much quicker.
  • Bummer - already been to the post box!

    Never mind...

  • Just remember that they will probably respond to your request for information with a letter asking for proof of identity (passport, driving licence copies, and original bills). They don't just send out information any more because of problems with identity theft.
