Amilo Freezes When Playing games

Hi Guys,

I have just bought a second hand Fujitsu Siemens Amilo A1667G. its less than 2 months old.

It has the following basic specs:

AMD 64 4000+ processor 2.2 GHz
ATI Mobility Radeon X700 128 dedicated graphics.
512mb ram

My problem is my Amilo keeps freezing when I play computer games.

I bought starsky and hutch (no laughing) system requirements are:

Operating System: Windows 98/2000/ME/XP
CPU: Pentium III 500 MHz or Higher
VIDEO: 16 MB 3D Video Card
Hard Disk Space: 100 MB HD
CD: 16x or Faster
RAM: 128 MB RAM
DX: DirectX 8

You can see my specs blow all over this, my laptop should pound this game into the ground, so why does it freeze when a level loads up.

The same happened when I tried to play Fahrenheit

Memory: 256 MB RAM

Is there anything I need to consider with regards to the graphics card setup, has anybody had this problem, any suggestions why this might happen when it clearly shouldn’t?

How long into playing does it start to freeze? Could it be the laptop is overheating if playing for a length of time?

is this a common problem with laptops? overheating?

laptop does run hot as with all laptops - would it cause the game to freeze though?

if so whats the answer - apart from a cooling mat, would reducing the resolution help, i.e. a lower frame rate is less taxing?

Have you got the latest ati catalyst drivers for the graphics card?

yea i have, i also have catalyst control center installed.

are there some settings i could be missing?

Same problem with an acer aspire (similar spec) - it was overheating. I had in a cushion on my lap. Either put it on a tray (gives clearance around the airvents) or get a laptop cooler like this
