Travelcards for couples?

Hi

Is there an annual travelcard for a couple (or two singles) without kids ?

We are 43 and 39 but (as usual) are penalised for not having kids.

Im looking to travel from Somerset to Gatwick in Jan and returning in Feb and the prices at the moment are £100 each return

Thanks

  • Thanks for the quick reply.

Sadly, coverage doesnt extend to most of Somerset so it isnt valid for our routes.

Depending on your route to Gatwick a 'Gatwick Flyaway' ticket may be cheaper - for example from Bristol Temple Meads it's £100 return total for the two of you. No advance booking needed, no peak hour restrictions. Just travel via Reading, not London

Advance booking may also be cheaper - you are far too early for those cheap fares.
  • Hi just looked at the 'Gatwick Flyaway' ticket.

Unfortunately (or I guess fortunately) we are going away for 6 weeks and the 'Gatwick Flyaway' ticket is only valid for a return within 1 month.

Which is the same as any rail return ticket

Then waiting for the cheap fares is an option. You'll need to book outward and return separately as they won't come out together

Currently FGW are booking up to late November/early December

You can go away for six weeks.

Oh, and is it another penalty when you are forced to travel outside the school holidays to get the cheaper prices?

And only having to pay for two people must be really upsetting.

Swings and roundabouts, I think you'll find.
  • LOL - we could have a very long debate on here about kids/no kids but it probably isnt the place.

We could see if there's a section for it and start a thread if you wish?

    :T
  • i dont get why you are being penalised for having no kids, believe me if the fare is more expensive as you are not buying a family railcard or whatever you will save that minor amount on the first day of your holiday without kids, in fact you will save it before you even leave as you wont have to uy them 'something to keep them amused on the train'
