Different overnight adress on car insurance?

I will be taking my car to university with me soon and need to take out the insurance.

Do I need to state my university address when asked where the car is parked overnight, even if I only spend term time at that address and the majority of the year at my home address?

There is a considerable difference in price between the two addresses (£200+).

I am worried my insurance could be invalid if I claim on it when up at university and the insurance is registered to my home address or vice versa.

Any help given will be greatly appreciated! :)

You need to answer the question that is being asked fully - so if the car is parked in two different places on a regular basis you need to disclose this.

No point in not doing so, as if the vehicle is stolen/damaged away from the address where you have said it will be, insurers will make enquiries which could end up in your claim not being covered.

If you are trying to get an online quote, then you would be better discussing this with a broker who will be able to provide more advice and possibly discuss with the underwriter on your behalf and explain the circumstances. It may be that the insurers ask you to do a change of address each time you move e.g. each term, and then will adjust the premium accordingly.

The place where the vehicle is kept is a material fact as it affects the rating that insurers apply, so you do need to advise them.

An online company will discuss it if you give them a call and make sure both addresses are covered. Avoid anone that suggests changing the address, you will be stuck with policy ammendment fees and possible loadings for the new postcode, up to six times in the year.
