NatWest Current Account w/ Debit Card & PayPal

OK, basically I just got a NatWest account with a DC. Activated it as soon as it got here so I could use it when my money was paid in this morning. Anyway, when I checked online I had my money in the account.

I paid a bill online and the balance was taken straight away, then I topped up my mobile and that was deducted straight away too. Then I paid for a 3 day subscription to a website which went through OK and deducted straight away.

I went to the cashpoint and took out some cash. I went into Tesco at lunch and tried to buy some bits with the card, as I knew I had at least £10 in there. She told me it was rejected which is stupid as I knew there was money in the account so I had to use my cash which was being saved for a birthday card.

Then I came home and ordered a game off Play.com which came to £7 and AFAIK it has been OK. Certainly no email to tell me the order has been cancelled or I need to use a different card. Actually, just checking and the money has been taken.

Then I went to register it with PayPal. And each time I try, it tells me the card is not valid and please contact the issuer. Is this a known issue or is just somethign happening to me because I have **** credit score?

Sorry if this comes over as a rant, but it helps to get it off my chest.

First of all have you spoken to natwest regarding your issue?

Is there a block on your card for example for some reason it does happen.

  • I haven't yet; but it is top of my list to do in the morning. I can't see why there would be a block on it though?

  • Finally got round to calling them today. It turns out that a website I had made a 3 day subscription payment to had triggered a block on the card as they have had problems with the website in the past; which is why I had it delcined in a few places. So the bloke I spoke to said he would unlock it and I should be OK to use it after 15 minutes, and that was 20 minutes ago so I'm going to give it another go making a payment. Wish me luck.
