Chopping up pdfs

Hi all

I have a big travel guide in (locked) PDF. I want to chop out some of the maps, put them all on one/two pages, and print it out (i.e. without all the intervening verbage).

Is there an easier way of doing this than taking screenprints and then cropping/sizing/shuffling the results in Photoshop?

The Rasta-ising goes all blurry if I open PDFs directly in Photoshop.

I don't really mind what the output format is as long as I can print it.

TIA...

p.s. note that I'm not looking to just take individual pages out of a long PDF, but to take small areas of some pages out

Are you making small pictures bigger? When you say locked, I assume you mean password protected?

I can preserve the size or make them a little smaller, I don't mind.

It's not password protected, but I can't select individual sections, just the whole thing (Cntr + A). But I'm using pdf readers, so I guess that's not surprising!

You could try converting to word format (.doc) however not sure if they work with locked pdf, it will cost nothing to try.

You'll need the full version of Acrobat or if you have Photoshop you can open up the pages in that, then cut the photo and place on a new document.

I can do this for you if it's not too much.

  • Any of the (free or otherwise) PDF printer applications can do this. I use FreePDF (http://freepdfxp.de/ - website is in German but the download has an English manual), but there are plenty of others. Just open the document, then print the pages you want to a new PDF via the PDF Printer.

I have photoshop (6) but can't open the pdf in it

I don't have the full Acrobat. Thanks for the offer to do them, but there are a lot of them. Worst case, I can take screengrabs in windows clipboard then fiddle with the bitmaps in Photoshop. I was just hoping for an easier way.

@aerostar - thanks. No reply from pdftoword.com, but I'll give the others a go later on.

@spenderdave - I obviously didn't make myself clear. I want to take the top left quarter of page 2 and put it on the same page as the bottom one third of page 6 and the top right one eighth of page 12 and the bottom left quarter of page 13, etc...

Using adobe reader (free -I'm on version 8.1.2 ) just zoom into the map you want to print so it fills your screen.

Then click print and choose "print range" -'current view' and "Page scaling" -'Fit to printable area' and -auto rotate and center

    simples :)
