Problem with screen resizing on laptop

Hi all,
I have an Acer laptop - just over a year old. I have a query with regard to the laptop mouse - periodically when you are moving the mouse around, it will resize the screen; so either the text goes really large, or it will go so small it is totally unreadable.
Is there any way of turning this resizing issue off? (as it drives my OH totally mad and seems to resize more frequently for him than it does for me).
Thanks for any help and I hope you can understand what I am asking.

you may be hitting the scroll bars on your mousepad, turn them off in mouse settings!!

new touchpads have the capacity to magnify the screen either way by using more than 1 finger - if you use a touchpad and accidently drag an extra finger over the touchpad, your screen goes berserk. It can be turned off in the mouse/touchpad control panelIT Field Service Engineer, 20 years with screwdriver and hammer
