Bank put me in overdraft

Ok. So this has probably been asked before, sorry if so.

So my bank was £348 overdrawn, which is within my £350 OD limit. The bank (Santander) took £5 Authorised OD charge putting me overdrawn, now they have started adding £15 fees to it because i am no longer in my authorised overdraft.

I tried explaining on the phone that i have never been charged before when the bank put me overdrawn, why now? All they say is it's standard procedure.

Just wondering if this is right? I genuinly have never been charged before when the bank has made me overdrawn, but it seems that now santander have taken my account from alliance leicester they seem to be able to do what they like?

I didn't have the option of leaving before they took over, because i couldn't afford to get out of my overdraft. All seems a bit of a con to me.

Sorry for the rant, i'm just really angry!

Many thanks! and sorry again.

  • Totally standard procedure. The £5 OD charge, you would have been notified of that usually 14 days before it debits so you should have had the funds in the account to cover this payment.

Santander may waive one charge as a goodwill gesture but they're not obliged to.

  • So, you knew your balance, you knew the fee for servicing your overdraft, and I guess can do 348+5. How is this Santander's fault?
