Noise after new timing belt fitted
Hi,
I had the timing belt replaced on my Mazda 323 replaced today. There's now a noise coming from that area on the engine. It sounds a bit like a woodpecker I suppose except not as rapid. It's not that loud but it can be clearly heard from outside the car.
Can these things take time to 'settle'? Should I take it back to the garage and ask them about it?
Thanks

If it was done at a dealership, ask them if a non-trainee can do it next time.“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”

I'd phone the garage and have them recover the car. Sounds like the tensioner hasn't been fitted properly.0

sounds like it has been over tentioned as suggested get it straight back so they can whip the covers off to find out the cause.0

Don't drive it. Get them to collect it.0

It turns out the plastic cover over the timing belt isn't quite seated correctly and it's catching slightly against the wheel that drives the alternator belt. They managed to pop the cover into place and the noise stopped but it must have popped out of place again on the way to work...
I'll get them to fix it properly.0
