Lost monitoring studs

Hi. Anyone ever had experience of being told by surveyors for their insurance company, that the monitoring studs attached to the principle crack (vertical outside brick wall at the join with next door semi ) cant be found, but because all the other sets of studs elsewhere on other walls( all minor ones) are showing stability over a year, its nothing to worry about, so we must move on to repairs . Victorian house, 3 flats. One flat owner vouches that the monitoring company did indeed go up onto a first floor flat roof to access where the studs should be , but never commented at the time they didnt find them. The report when it comes to the column for that crack says 'cant find' . Doesnt seem too professional, but the surveyors insist all is well. The flat owners are uneasy. Do you think we have cause or is this a relatively common scenario.

Seems to me if a surveyor (structural engineer?) is monitoring cracks for possible on-going movement, and is using monitoring studs, then it's fairly important that those studs are checked.

If they can't be found I fail to see how thta wall can be assessed on the basis of studs on other walls.

Could it be that more studs are put in than are needed to determine the extent of movement in a building? This redundancy would mean a good assessment could be made even if some studs are 'lost'.

Its a possibility , but it seems dubious that the studs put across the primary crack should be ignored as a measurement.

Im just wondering if the insurance are expecting us to have more subsidence (this is the second lot) and would prefer to sign us off quickly , so any new work would have to be done under a new claim with the inevitable unfavourable rise in excess we would have.
Can we agree to go ahead I wonder with some sort of clause that as we havent been given a final reading on the principle crack , if we get more subsidence within a few months , the present claim could be re opened? Does that happen does anyone know?
