RCIB - What to do?!?

My wife just took out a policy with the online, and it turns out that one of the details she input was incorrect. After speaking to someone from their team, the new quote is higher than the old one (understandably).
The sales person was apparently quite pressuring about closing at the new price today, and that it might not be available tomorrow etc. The feeling I get especially after doing a bit more research is that they're a bit of a cowboy outfit.
They've told us they will charge a £45 minimum admin fee if we cancel, but then what is there to cancel if there is presently no cover/insurance? Their system works in a slightly weird way where you have to call them after putting payment details etc online. Does DSR/Cooling off period not apply?
Can anyone shed some light as to what the options are?

Right Choice are not a very good company. Posters have complained via comparison sites, that they were receiving calls asking for more money, than they were quoted via the comparison site.
If this was your mistake, then yes they can charge the £45 to cover their costs.
Personally I think I would cancel, pay the money to avoid possible debt collection and then look for Insurance elsewhere. The comments I post are personal opinion. Always refer to official information sources before relying on internet forums. If you have a problem with any organisation, enter into their official complaints process at the earliest opportunity, as sometimes complaints have to be started within a certain time frame.0 -
Most policies would have a cooling off period which would apply to online and telephone sales. (Possibly less the amount it would have cost to cover you if the cover starts today). But as you say the cover is invalid anyway.
Could you go back onto their website and carefully check all their terms and conditions. If they have a £45 admin fee it should be somewhere on the site to advise you. If you can't find it, ring back and ask them to direct you to where this is stated.
It's highly unlikely (though not impossible) that the new price will not be available tomorrow - it's a sales tactic to get you to agree to the new policy there and then.
I've no idea as to their reputation as being a cowboy outfit but if you're not comfortable with them at this stage, do you want to be insured with them for 12 months?
Have you had a shop around for another competitive deal or tried any cashback sites?
If they stated the admin fee and you just missed it, then you will probably have to pay it if you don't want to take out the new policy with them.
It's an expensive lesson but you'll hopefully never do it again. And by posting you will have hopefully warned others to check terms before making a purchase. Although I realise this can be a long and tedious process to read through everything, it's worth checking things like this or ringing the insurer to clarify before purchasing (not much help to you now after the fact I know).
Hope this helps.0 -
I've just seen this link on another thread regarding cancellation charges which may help you.

The FSA link looks a bit complicated but you may find information that will help you.0 -
Bear in mind that to generate customers from a comparison site your premium normally needs to be one of the top three cheapest. See if you can spot a pattern...

Thanks for all the replies... wish I'd done the insurance for her myself, but was feeling lazy!
Hmm.. for the aggro of dealing with the FSA etc, they can have my 45 quid, and I'd rather move onto someone else.
Live and learn.
Thanks!0
